Advanced Learning Programs - International Baccalaureate

General Information

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students throughout the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that all people have equal responsibility in building a peaceful and interactive world.

The following schools are recognized by the IBO as International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools:


  • Clubview Elementary School
  • Richards Middle School
  • Hardaway High School


Clubview Elementary School

Clubview is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) and Georgia Charter School. As a charter school, applications to the IB PYP are accepted from outside our attendance zone and spaces are filled as they become available through a lottery system. Admission Criteria:

  • All students in the Clubview Elementary School attendance area will participate in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
  • Availability of space determines the number of applicants approved from outside the attendance area.
  • Application forms and student/parent contracts are available in the Clubview office or on this web-site.


Richards Middle School

Admission Criteria:

Admission Folder must include:


  • Application Form
  • Recommendation forms from current teachers:
  • Language Arts Teacher
  • Math Teacher
  • Copies of current and previous year's report card: incoming 6th graders: 4th grade report card & 1st semester 5th grade report card
  • Copies of norm-referenced test scores if not attending a MCSD school in 5th grade.
  • Satisfactory score on the Richards Middle School admissions


IB Program Requirements for Richards Middle School:

6th Grade (IB)


  • Completion of directed "History Day" project
  • Completion of directed science project
  • Participation in all grade level language arts competitions
  • Participation in all grade level math competitions
  • Participation in the Foreign Language Fair
  • 5 hours of community service
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (80% average)
7th Grade (IB)
  • Completion of "History Day" project
  • A project entered in the Science Fair
  • Participation in all grade level language arts competitions
  • Participation in all grade level math competitions
  • Participation in the Foreign Language Fair
  • 10 hours of community service
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (80% average)
8th Grade (IB)
  • Completion of "History Day" project
  • A project entered in the Science Fair
  • Participation in all grade level language arts competitions
  • Participation in all grade level math competitions
  • Participation in the Foreign Language Fair
  • 15 hours of community service
  • Participation in a class community & service project
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (80% average)


CONDUCT: Students in the IB magnet program are expected to exhibit exemplary conduct. Any student who receives an assignment from the office of ISS, Saturday School, or OSS will be automatically on disciplinary probation. Any student who receives a second assignment with any of these consequences during the school year will be removed from the program.

Hardaway High School

IB is not only recognized by colleges and universities as the best college preparatory program, it will help you discover the skills needed for you to stay in college. Only 50% of college freshman will graduate within 5 years of entering college. On average, 92% of IB graduates will receive a BA degree, 87% within the first 5 years.

The IB Diploma leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. Students learn more than a collection of facts. The IB courses prepare students for university and encourage them to:


  • ask challenging questions,
  • learn how to learn,
  • develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture, and
  • develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other cultures


Admission Criteria:

The IB Coordinator and Admissions Committee are looking for students who are:


  • strongly motivated,
  • self-disciplined,
  • excites about learning,
  • willing to think "outside the box"
  • eager to explore global culture, and
  • committed to acquiring the best education possible.
Guidelines include:
  • Above average standardized test scores in reading and math
  • Two signatures from 8th grade core subject teachers
  • A "B" or better grade point average in 7th and 8th grade core courses
  • Successful completion of the application process, including a satisfactory score on the writing and math exam
  • Documentation from 8th grade counselor that affirms a history of positive attendance and discipline record


Consideration for admission into the Hardaway High School IB Magnet Program will commence once the applicant’s Admission Folder is complete.

Admission Folder must include:


  • Application Form complete with: Two teachers’ signatures of recommendation from core subjects (Math, Science, LA, SS)
  • Guidance Referral form
  • Copy of Report Card (7th grade and 8th grade (most recent))
  • Standardized Test Scores
  • Admissions Test completed and scored


After meeting all criteria, a letter of acceptance, including a contract, will be mailed to applicants. Upon return of the contract (Statement of Intent), applicant will be admitted to the program.

IB Program Requirements for Hardaway High School:

The IB Diploma will be awarded to a candidate provided all the following requirements have been met:


  • CAS requirements have been met. (To be determined by the school)
  • The candidate’s total points are 24 or more.
  • There is no “N” awarded for theory of knowledge, the extended essay or for a contributing subject.
  • There is no grade E awarded for theory of knowledge and/or the extended essay.
  • There is no grade 1 awarded in a subject/level.
  • There are no more than two grade 2s awarded (HL or SL).
  • There are no more than three grade 3s or below awarded (HL or SL).
  • The candidate has gained 12 points or more on HL subjects (for candidates who register for four HL subjects, the three highest grades count).
  • The candidate has gained 9 points or more on SL subjects (candidates who register for two SL subjects must gain at least 5 points at SL).
  • The candidate has not received a penalty for academic misconduct from the Final Award Committee.
The IB Career-Related Certificate will be awarded to a candidate provided all the following requirements have been met.

  • CSL requirements have been met. (To be determined by the school)
  • The Language Development Portfolio has been completed satisfactorily. (To be determined by the school)
  • There is no “N” awarded for the Reflective Project.
  • There is no grade E awarded for the Reflective Project.
  • There is no grade 1 awarded in a subject/level.
  • The candidate has earned a score of 3 or better in two Diploma subjects (HL or SL).
  • The candidate has not received a penalty for academic misconduct from the Final Award Committee.
